Audiolab Launches 6000CDT MKII CD Transport as Physical Music Sales Surge

Audiolab has officially unveiled the 6000CDT MKII, a specialized audio component built exclusively for reading compact discs without handling the digital-to-analog conversion process. Hitting the market at the end of November for £399, the new hardware highlights the ongoing resurgence of physical music formats among dedicated listeners. Unlike traditional all-in-one CD players, a transport focuses entirely on extracting data from the disc surface while requiring a separate DAC, amplifier, and speakers to produce audible sound.

Isolating the disc-reading mechanism away from other electrical components allows for a cleaner, more stable signal path. Audiolab completely rebuilt this iteration from its predecessor, refining internal elements such as the laser, spindle, and disc loader to operate with minimal noise and maximum stability. The onboard laser correction system is specifically engineered to mitigate unpredictability in disc rotation, reducing unnecessary mechanical actions that could introduce interference into the playback chain.

Beyond standard compact discs, the 6000CDT MKII adds comprehensive support for CD-R and CD-RW rewritable discs, a format that often proves unreliable on lower-end hardware. While buyers will need to invest in complementary separates like an external DAC or an integrated amplifier such as Audiolab's own matching 6000A MKII, the specialized hardware appeals to audiophiles looking to customize every stage of their listening setup.
