The expansive universe of bending is growing even larger. Creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko took the stage at New York Comic Con to deliver a wave of major announcements for the franchise. Fans learned that the recently launched sequel series, Avatar: Seven Havens, has already secured an expanded order stretching across four seasons and totaling more episodes than initially revealed.
While the first 13 episodes roll out weekly on Paramount+, the creative team confirmed that Books 3 and 4 are officially on the horizon. This early commitment offers unusual stability for a new animated streaming project. During the panel, accompanied by voice actors Janet Varney, Major Curda, Aishu Devan, and Seheli Khan, the team also detailed how visual influences like the classic manga Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind shaped the distinct aesthetic of Seven Havens.
Beyond the continuation of Seven Havens, the panel surprised attendees with the unveiling of a brand-new animated project titled Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos. Produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios with Konietzko serving as showrunner, the series explores the origins of the notoriously tragic waterbending Avatar. Despite Kuruk's grim reputation within franchise lore, the new show leans unexpectedly into an action-comedy tone. The synopsis describes a rebellious teenage Kuruk defying centuries of tradition to master the four elements through globetrotting adventures while eluding pirates, spirits, and his instructors.
The announcements did not stop at television production. Franchise leadership also confirmed a new comic book trilogy titled The Legend of Korra: The Long Game. Written by DiMartino and illustrated by Alexandria Monik, the upcoming graphic novel brings back beloved characters including Korra, Bolin, Zaheer, and Tokuga. Release dates for the later seasons of Seven Havens, the Kuruk animated series, and the new Korra comic remain under wraps.
