Analogue is returning to the 1991 hardware era with updated versions of its classic retro hardware. The company has announced the new Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+, designed to play original Super Nintendo and Genesis cartridges natively while scaling output to modern displays. Priced at $220 each, these refreshed miniature systems serve as direct follow-ups to the original models launched in 2018 and 2019, incorporating long-awaited hardware revisions.

Under the hood, both devices utilize an Altera Cyclone V field-programmable gate array chip. This hardware-level emulation approach allows the consoles to accurately recreate original chip logic, enabling players to use physical game cartridges without relying on software emulation. Analogue states that both units support 100% of the game libraries released for the original SNES and Genesis platforms, encompassing both PAL and NTSC regional variants. Additionally, the Mega Sg+ includes a physical spacer to accommodate original Sega CD hardware attachments.

The updated hardware introduces several practical adjustments for modern setups. Chief among these upgrades is an integrated 2.4GHz receiver compatible with various 8BitDo controllers and arcade sticks, alongside standard Bluetooth connectivity. Retaining a nod to original hardware, both machines still feature two traditional controller ports apiece. Rear-facing USB-C and USB-A ports provide power options via standard cables while also supporting digital-to-analogue converters for specialized video and audio routing.

Both systems upscale legacy titles to 1080p resolution and feature customizable on-screen menus for adjusting audio levels, display sizing, and output formatting. Pre-orders for the Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+ open on October 19 at a retail price of $220 per console, arriving in multiple front-plate color variations.
