Christopher Nolan’s psychological thriller The Prestige is heading back to the big screen to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Warner Bros. and exhibitors are bringing the film back to theaters starting January 29, 2027, with audiences getting a rare chance to experience the movie in premium formats including IMAX and 70mm.
Released originally in 2006 following Batman Begins, the film adapts Christopher Priest's 1985 novel about two rival stage magicians, played by Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, locked in a bitter race to engineer the ultimate teleportation illusion. The movie earned Academy Award nominations for its art direction and cinematography, remaining a fan favorite in Nolan's extensive filmography.
The upcoming cinematic revival follows recent theatrical re-releases of other Nolan titles like Interstellar and Tenet. For The Prestige, the return to IMAX holds historical significance. The production notably featured the first-ever IMAX 70mm shot utilized in a narrative-length feature film, serving as a technical testing ground before Nolan tackled The Dark Knight.
Director Christopher Nolan expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming screenings, noting that viewers will finally get the opportunity to see the feature in 70mm and IMAX formats. Tickets and specific theater locations for the January 2027 anniversary run are expected to roll out as the release date approaches.
