Sony is revising its PlayStation gaming headset lineup with two new wireless hardware models, addressing previous ergonomic complaints while doubling down on audio fidelity. The refresh includes the standard PlayStation Pulse and the high-end Pulse Edge, operating on advanced planar magnetic drivers designed to deliver a richer acoustic profile. The base model features four magnets per driver, while the premium Edge variant incorporates eight magnets to push sound performance further.

The standard PlayStation Pulse headset is slated to ship on November 19 for a starting price of $100, available in both white and Midnight Black colorways. Unlike its predecessor, the base unit relies on an integrated microphone rather than a physical boom arm, utilizing AI-enabled noise rejection to filter out ambient room sound. Meanwhile, the higher-end Pulse Edge introduces active noise cancellation to the PlayStation hardware lineup for the first time, accompanied by a plug-in boom mic and a custom carrying case.

Connectivity across both models relies on Sony’s proprietary PlayStation Link 2.4GHz wireless dongle, aligning with other upcoming accessories in the ecosystem. While engineers focused heavily on improving ergonomics—incorporating rotating earcups designed to rest comfortably around the neck—questions remain regarding how these console-focused cans overlap with Sony's existing Inzone PC gaming audio brand. The standard Pulse hits retail shelves ahead of the holidays, though pricing and a final release window for the Pulse Edge have yet to be fully detailed.
