Stryker Launches Mako 4 in India, Bringing Next-Generation Robotic Technology to Joint Replacement

Medical technology company Stryker has launched its fourth-generation Mako SmartRobotics platform in India, bringing its latest robotic-assisted technology to joint replacement procedures. Announced on October 5, 2026, Mako 4 is designed to support surgeons during total knee, partial knee and total hip replacement procedures.
The system combines 3D CT-based surgical planning with Stryker's AccuStop haptic technology. Before surgery, patient-specific CT data is used to create a three-dimensional model that can help surgeons plan the procedure according to the patient's anatomy. During the operation, the robotic arm provides controlled assistance based on the surgeon's plan.
One of Mako 4's key technologies is its haptic guidance system, which provides resistance when the surgical instrument approaches predefined boundaries. This is intended to help the surgeon stay within the planned area while preserving surrounding anatomy.
Importantly, Mako 4 does not independently perform surgery. The surgeon remains in control throughout the procedure, while the robotic platform provides planning, visualisation and physical guidance.
Stryker says the system is designed to support a more personalised approach to joint replacement by combining patient-specific imaging with intraoperative technology. The company has introduced the platform in India as demand for advanced orthopaedic and robotic-assisted procedures continues to grow.
The launch adds another significant development to India's growing healthcare-technology ecosystem, where robotics, advanced imaging and computer-assisted surgery are increasingly being integrated into clinical workflows.
