Apple is reportedly preparing one of the biggest redesigns in the history of the MacBook Pro, with the next-generation models expected to bring several features that Mac users have been waiting for. According to recent reports, Apple could introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro as early as October 2026, although the launch could be pushed to November. Apple has not officially confirmed the launch date or specifications yet.

The biggest expected upgrade is a touch-enabled OLED display. The new MacBook Pro is reportedly being developed with a Tandem OLED panel, which could deliver deeper blacks, higher contrast and improved HDR performance compared with the current mini-LED displays. The upcoming models are expected in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes.

Another major change could be the design. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that the redesigned MacBook Pro will be “significantly lighter”, with Apple reportedly miniaturising and rearranging internal components to reduce the overall weight. The laptop is also expected to feature a thinner chassis and a Dynamic Island-style display cutout instead of the current notch.

Performance is expected to remain a key focus, with reports pointing towards M5 Pro and M5 Max chips for these high-end OLED models. Apple is also reportedly preparing macOS changes specifically for touchscreen interaction. The latest macOS 27.2 beta includes references to touch gestures in apps such as Photos, Notes, Safari and Quick Look, providing additional evidence that Apple is preparing macOS for touch-enabled Macs.

If Apple delivers these upgrades, the next MacBook Pro could represent a major shift for the Mac lineup, combining OLED technology, touchscreen controls, a lighter design and powerful Apple silicon in a single premium machine.
