Friday the 13th enthusiasts have spent decades debating the exact facial features hidden behind Jason Voorhees' legendary hockey mask. While original films offered brief glimpses of a misshapen, bald child emerging from Camp Crystal Lake waters, the upcoming Peacock prequel series aims to rewrite that visual history. Set to premiere next week on October 15, Crystal Lake explores the formative years of the future slasher villain before his tragic drowning and descent into serial murder.

Twelve-year-old actor Callum Vinson steps into the iconic role, portraying a young Jason who grapples with severe bullying due to a cranial deformation. Rather than inheriting the hyper-monstrous aesthetic crafted by original effects master Tom Savini, showrunner Brad Caleb Kane opted for a grounded, modern visual approach. Bringing this version of the character to life required pounds of transformative makeup, with Vinson enduring grueling prosthetic application sessions that eventually dropped from four and a half hours down to a manageable ninety minutes.

Despite the physical demands of the makeup chair, Vinson embraced the intense character study, comparing the transformation to donning superhero gear like Iron Man or Spider-Man. Viewers will also spot a familiar face covering in the series, though it diverges from the iconic hockey mask fans know from the later films. With production details tightly under wraps and only brief teaser footage released, audiences will have to wait for the official streaming debut to see the final prosthetic design in action.
