Marvel Television brought a massive surprise to New York Comic Con on Thursday, showcasing new footage and hosting a mini-reunion for the upcoming third and final season of Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox took the stage alongside Finn Jones and Krysten Ritter, effectively confirming the official return of the iconic Defenders lineup. While Mike Colter was absent due to filming commitments for a CBS series, the on-stage gathering validated months of speculation driven by leaked production photos from the set.
The seeds for this crossover were firmly planted during the second season of Born Again, which saw Matt Murdock team up with Jessica Jones to dismantle the Kingpin's empire. Subsequent plot reveals established that Luke Cage and Jessica Jones had built a life together and raised a child, Danielle. Meanwhile, the inclusion of Finn Jones as Iron Fist closes the loop on the street-level universe that fans feared was permanently buried when Netflix canceled its Marvel slate back in 2019.
The path back to this reunion has been an unexpected journey for viewers who watched the original Netflix corner of the Marvel universe dissolve following Avengers: Endgame. Hopes were reignited when Cox reprised his role in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home, paving the way for the creation of Daredevil: Born Again. Although Marvel originally planned to drop the Defenders reunion as a major convention reveal, the official confirmation sets the stage for the street-level heroes to reunite on screen sometime around 2027.
