Fortem Technologies has closed a $50 million Series B funding round, pulling in strategic backing from aerospace and defense heavyweight Lockheed Martin. The influx of capital underscores an escalating corporate focus on counter-drone technology as low-altitude airspace management becomes a critical priority for both military installations and civilian critical infrastructure.

The Utah-based startup specializes in radar systems and interceptor drones designed to detect, track, and neutralize rogue unmanned aerial vehicles. Traditional jamming equipment often fails against autonomous drones operating without GPS or radio frequency signals. Fortem addresses this vulnerability through onboard edge computing and millimeter-wave radar, allowing its hardware to autonomously classify and mitigate aerial threats.

Defense budgets globally are shifting rapidly toward asymmetric warfare solutions, creating a lucrative market for agile hardware developers. Lockheed Martin's financial commitment signals validation from legacy primes that rely on smaller innovators to bridge technology gaps. Beyond traditional defense applications, Fortem sees massive potential in securing urban environments ahead of widespread commercial drone delivery rollouts.

Executives plan to deploy the newly acquired funds toward accelerating hardware production, expanding engineering headcount, and scaling global deployment. As commercial airspace becomes increasingly congested, the race to build reliable, autonomous security perimeters will dictate the commercial viability of next-generation aviation.
