Purdue University Northwest’s (PNW) Roberts Impact Lab has secured a significant U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) award, positioning it as a key contributor to the Bloch Tech Hub's mission of advancing quantum technology. This national recognition underscores PNW's growing influence in cutting-edge scientific research and its role in a critical national technology initiative.

The Bloch Tech Hub, headquartered in Chicago, is one of 31 inaugural Tech Hubs designated nationwide under the CHIPS and Science Act. These hubs are specifically designed to foster robust regional innovation ecosystems in strategically important technologies, with the EDA providing substantial grants to accelerate development and commercialization. The highly competitive nature of these grants highlights the Bloch Tech Hub’s strategic importance and its focus on quantum computing, a domain with profound future implications across various sectors.

The Roberts Impact Lab, known for its interdisciplinary research and strong track record in materials science and advanced manufacturing, will contribute its specialized expertise directly to the Bloch Tech Hub’s quantum initiatives. This involvement will encompass fundamental research, the development of quantum materials, and the crucial work of prototyping and translating complex quantum theories into tangible, real-world applications. The lab’s participation not only elevates PNW’s research profile but also significantly strengthens the broader Midwest region’s capacity in the burgeoning field of quantum science and engineering.

This EDA award represents a strategic national investment in the United States' quantum capabilities. By fostering deeper collaboration between academic institutions like PNW and industry partners within the Bloch Tech Hub, the initiative aims to cultivate a skilled quantum workforce, attract further private and public investment, and solidify American leadership in a technology poised to redefine computing, medicine, and secure communications. Such regional innovation hubs are central to distributing technological prosperity and building resilient domestic supply chains for future technologies.
