Anbernic is expanding its retro handheld lineup with a new dual-screen device designed to tackle more demanding emulation. Just a year after teasing a Nintendo DS remake, the company has revealed the RG DDS, short for Dream Dual-Screen. This clamshell console borrows its dual-screen layout directly from the Nintendo 3DS while packing significantly more processing power under the hood.

Driving the hardware is Qualcomm's Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chip. This inclusion marks a major performance leap, enabling the handheld to emulate demanding systems like the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Switch. The physical design features a clamshell frame that closely mirrors Nintendo's hardware, though Anbernic added a second analog stick on the right side and included an extendable capacitive stylus that tucks neatly into the chassis.

Screen configuration remains the focal point for handheld enthusiasts looking to revisit dual-screen libraries. The main top display measures 4.7 inches with a 1,200 by 720 resolution, yielding a 5:3 aspect ratio. Below it sits a 4-inch secondary screen with a 960 by 720 resolution and a traditional 4:3 aspect ratio. Powering the system is a 6,000mAh battery, though full internal specifications are still under wraps.

Anbernic also included a dedicated AI button on the device, though specific software functions for the button remain unannounced. Pricing and release dates have not been shared yet. Given the brand's pricing history, the RG DDS is anticipated to land above its $99 precursor while potentially undercutting competitors like the Retroid Pocket Duo series.
