Director Tim Burton and Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro are reportedly collaborating on a feature film project. According to industry reports, the upcoming film features an original script penned by Ishiguro, distinct from any of his previous or upcoming novels. Plot details remain strictly under wraps, though multiple sources indicate the story is set in post-World War II Japan. No distributor or additional cast members have been attached to the project yet.

While the production status has not been officially confirmed as Burton's immediate next directorial venture, sources note it is the project receiving his primary attention following the conclusion of production on Wednesday. The director recently wrapped work on the hit Netflix series, which has its third season slated for release in 2027. Burton and Ishiguro share an indirect creative link through actress Jenna Ortega, who stars in Wednesday and headlines Taika Waititi's upcoming adaptation of Ishiguro's 2021 novel, Klara and the Sun.

Kazuo Ishiguro's literary works have a history of successful screen adaptations, most notably The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go. Additionally, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is currently developing a stop-motion animated version of Ishiguro's fantasy novel The Buried Giant. As development continues on the Burton and Ishiguro collaboration, cinephiles and literary fans alike await further casting announcements and production timelines.
