Microsoft has rolled out performance improvements for Windows 11, claiming the operating system is now up to 20 percent more responsive across typical interface workloads. The software giant points to measured speed increases in core areas including Windows search, the right-click context menu, Settings, the Start menu, File Explorer, and the Snipping Tool. These enhancements stem from ongoing code optimization and system resource management rather than a complete platform overhaul.

A primary focus of these performance tweaks is optimizing memory utilization on mainstream hardware. Machines equipped with 8GB of RAM stand to gain the most, as Windows can now keep up to 2GB of active data directly in memory instead of offloading it to slower storage drives. Additionally, background resource consumption has been trimmed down by deferring widget loading until the user explicitly opens them, saving around 200MB of background RAM usage.

Alongside core OS speedups, Microsoft has overhauled the native Photos app using the modern WinUI 3 framework. The redesigned application launches up to 25 percent faster and includes updated editing features such as object removal and lighting adjustments. The separate photo viewer opens images up to 30 percent quicker, while a unified Gallery feature now integrates local storage with cloud services like OneDrive and Apple iCloud, supported by natural-language search capabilities.
