Major Chinese smartphone manufacturers are aggressively escalating a battery capacity race, leaving traditional Western flagships far behind. Just a week after OnePlus announced an Android flagship featuring a 9,000mAh battery, Beijing-based competitor Xiaomi revealed details for its upcoming Redmi K100. Scheduled for an October 27 launch, Xiaomi claims the new device will sport a battery capacity sitting right around an extraordinary 10,000mAh.

To put this massive shift into perspective, mainstream Western devices like Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra and Google's Pixel 11 Pro XL typically stick to roughly 5,000mAh power cells. In comparison, phones emerging from China are beginning to resemble portable power banks equipped with high-end displays. Honor previously introduced its Power2 and Magic 9 super power models crossing the 10,000mAh and 11,000mAh thresholds respectively, with rumors pointing toward even larger 12,000mAh variants on the horizon.

Industry observers note that this rapid expansion is not solely about standard daily longevity, as devices like the S26 Ultra already easily last through typical day-to-day usage. Instead, the trend aligns with a surging emphasis on mobile gaming and sustained performance. The Redmi K100 notably marks the first time a base Redmi K series phone incorporates a dedicated gaming chip. Combined with power-hungry components like 185Hz OLED panels seen across newer hardware from OnePlus and Honor, these extreme battery sizes appear engineered to fuel intensive, long-form gaming sessions on the go.
