A US district judge has dismissed the lawsuit filed last year by Ann Altman against her brother, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. US District Judge Zachary Bluestone issued the ruling on Tuesday after noting that the plaintiff repeatedly failed to appear for a court-ordered independent medical examination and missed several other mandatory deadlines despite prior warnings.
The legal action, which alleged childhood abuse, was dismissed with prejudice. This legal determination means the specific case cannot be refiled in that court. At the same time, the judge chose to deny a separate request from Sam Altman asking the court to order the plaintiff to cover his attorney fees and litigation costs.
When the initial complaint surfaced last year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, along with his mother and brothers, issued a joint statement categorizing the accusations as entirely false and deeply painful for the family. Legal representatives for both sides have navigated multiple shifts over the past year, with Ann Altman's attorney withdrawing from the proceedings shortly before the final dismissal was handed down.
