Tucked away near Glasgow Airport in Scotland, Hewlett Packard Enterprise operates one of the world's most advanced e-waste processing and hardware renewal facilities. Spanning 240,000 square feet, the Technology Renewal Centre at Erskine processes roughly 150,000 assets every month, turning retired enterprise infrastructure into certified second-hand hardware.

Originally established in the late 1980s as a manufacturing hub for Compaq, the site evolved into a dedicated renewal center in 2011. Today, a heavily vetted workforce of over 200 security-cleared employees handles everything from high-end server racks to workplace workstations and laptops. The facility accepts assets not just from HPE, but from various vendors, ensuring that over 80 percent of incoming hardware is successfully refurbished and reintroduced to the market.

Security and environmental impact remain core priorities for the operation. Every incoming drive undergoes military-grade sanitization, with HPE recording more than 1.6 million drives securely wiped. Alongside data destruction, the center emphasizes sustainable practices by avoiding traditional packaging materials, utilizing 100 percent recycled cardboard and water-soluble starch foam to prevent millions of kilograms of electronic waste from reaching landfills.
