Google Photos users on Android are finally getting more control over how their personal media libraries are organized. The tech giant is rolling out a redesigned Collections tab that drops the rigid, default sorting methods in favor of full user customization. This update follows a series of UI tweaks, including the floating navigation bar introduced earlier this summer, signaling a broader effort to streamline photo management on mobile devices.

Under the hood, the revamped layout replaces the old grid-heavy structure with a cleaner, modular approach. Users can now pin their favorite albums, utilities, and device folders directly to the top of the screen. Instead of scrolling through an endless chronological feed or digging into sub-menus, frequently accessed categories like screenshots, WhatsApp images, and favorited people tags sit front and center. The change addresses long-standing complaints from power users who found the previous interface cluttered and difficult to navigate efficiently.

Rolling out via a server-side update, the feature is currently hitting Android devices globally, with iOS support expected to follow in the coming weeks. As smartphones capture higher volumes of media every day, intelligent software architecture becomes essential for keeping local and cloud storage manageable. By shifting the curation burden back to the user through intuitive shortcuts, Google aims to make sorting through decades of digital memories significantly faster and far less frustrating.
