Ukraine Spots Mysterious Russian Gasoline-Powered Drone

Ukrainian defense specialists have identified a previously unknown Russian aircraft powered by a gasoline engine, adding a new variable to Moscow's expanding inventory of unmanned weapons. Spotted on the front lines and marked with red-starred wings, the unfamiliar drone shares a close visual resemblance to Russia's widely used Lancet loitering munition. However, its combustion engine marks a major departure from the standard electrically powered versions deployed previously.

Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on defense technologies, highlighted the discovery on social media channels. While imagery of the aircraft has surfaced publicly, officials have withheld specific details regarding the manufacturer, exact specifications, and operational capabilities until captured hardware can be thoroughly analyzed by defense experts.

Switching from electric motors to a gasoline combustion engine typically grants unmanned aerial vehicles significantly longer flight endurance, bypassing the strict limitations imposed by battery capacity. Despite this mechanical advantage, the exact operational range, flight duration, and payload capacity of the newly spotted aircraft remain undisclosed. The discovery underscores how rapidly battlefield drone technology continues to evolve as both sides test alternative propulsion methods and new aircraft designs.
