Safari Adds Long-Awaited Power-User Features Including Vertical Tabs

Apple is overhauling its native web browser with a suite of power-user updates designed to rival alternative browsers. With the latest developer betas rolling out, Safari is finally introducing vertical tabs across macOS, iPadOS, and the iPhone Duo, marking a major shift in how users organize their browsing sessions.

The newly introduced vertical tabs dock neatly on the left side of the screen, displaying minimalist favicon icons that expand to show full tab names upon hovering. This layout also integrates smoothly with grouped tabs and topics, offering a fluid navigation experience that works identically in both portrait and landscape modes on supported tablets and larger-screen phones.

Alongside tab reorganization, macOS users are getting an intelligent Adaptive Dark Mode that goes beyond simple color inversion. The system dynamically converts bright web pages by recalculating text contrast, recoloring vector artwork, and adjusting layered shadows to minimize eye strain. Furthermore, users running Apple Intelligence can leverage new Siri AI custom actions to sort, move, and close tabs using natural text or voice prompts, fundamentally changing how large quantities of web pages are managed.
