Apple has finally shattered years of predictable hardware refreshes by introducing a completely redesigned MacBook Pro lineup. Featuring a vibrant PROLED XDR display and a surprisingly lightweight build, the new generation of laptops signals a major shift in how the company approaches its professional portable computers. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch configurations, these machines come with a hefty price tag, starting at $2,899 for the M5 Pro model and scaling past $4,499 for the M5 Max versions.

One of the most striking physical changes is the reduction in weight. The 14-inch model now weighs a mere three pounds, shaving nearly half a pound off previous iterations, while the 16-inch version drops down to four pounds. Beyond the lighter chassis, Apple has brought back a subtle design touch from pre-2015 machines by adding a glowing LED behind the Apple logo on the lid. More importantly, the polarizing display notch has been permanently retired and replaced with a functional Dynamic Island housing a 12-megapixel camera. This software-integrated cutout handles Live Activities and incorporates Spotlight directly around the camera housing.

The hallmark upgrade, however, is the shift to tandem OLED technology. Dubbed the PROLED XDR display, the screen achieves a massive 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, stable typical brightness of 1,000 nits, and peaks at 2,000 nits for HDR and SDR content. Defying long-held company dogma established during the Steve Jobs era regarding vertical touch surfaces, Apple has also integrated touchscreen capabilities into the new MacBook Pro, marking a massive departure from traditional Mac ergonomics.
