Apple has officially introduced a touchscreen MacBook Pro lineup, setting a remarkably high price ceiling for fully customized configurations. While the base models begin at $2,899, buyers looking to max out every available hardware upgrade can expect a total price tag of roughly $14,549 for the 16-inch version, according to recent configuration data.
The massive price escalation is largely driven by high-end storage and memory tiers. Upgrading the machine to a 4TB solid-state drive adds an extra $1,000, while stepping up to an 8TB drive increases the cost by $3,000. For users selecting the newly introduced 16TB storage option, the price jumps by an additional $7,000. Furthermore, maxing out the memory to 128GB costs $2,000, and opting for the nano-texture glass display adds $150 to the total.
At the heart of these top-tier configurations is Apple's M5 Max processor, which features an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU. This hardware peak surpasses the previous generation's maximum ceiling of $10,149 by $4,400, reflecting the rising costs associated with advanced silicon and hardware components.
This release marks a notable hardware transition for Apple, bringing a full touchscreen interface to the MacBook Pro line nearly ten years after the company experimented with the short-lived Touch Bar. Preorders for the new laptops are scheduled to open on October 30, with official retail availability slated to begin on November 6.
