Airlines still rely heavily on legacy analog audio setups, forcing passengers to either accept standard-issue wired earbuds or purchase specialized headphones with built-in retransmission cases. To solve this friction point without requiring a hardware upgrade for premium wireless gear, audio manufacturer iFi has introduced the UP Travel Max. Priced at $129, the compact adapter plugs directly into standard 3.5mm headphone jacks to beam audio streams straight to Bluetooth headphones or earbuds.
Unlike single-purpose dongles currently on the market, the UP Travel Max operates bidirectionally via a physical toggle switch. When set to transmit mode, users can connect wireless headphones to vintage hardware like a classic iPod or plug directly into airline seat entertainment screens. Flipping the device into receive mode transforms an older car stereo or a desktop computer lacking native wireless modules into a Bluetooth-capable receiver, routing music straight from a smartphone.
Beyond basic connectivity, the hardware integrates a dedicated digital-to-analog converter borrowed from existing iFi product lines to prioritize audio fidelity. The internal battery delivers up to 10 hours of continuous playback while supporting advanced codecs such as LDAC and aptX Lossless. Preorders are open now ahead of a wider retail rollout scheduled for the end of November.
