England head into a high-stakes Rugby League World Cup 2026 Pool B/C match against Papua New Guinea at WIN Stadium in Wollongong, with Brian McDermott's team fighting to keep their semi-final hopes alive. The Wall of White recently crushed France 82-0 behind hat-tricks from Herbie Farnworth and Dom Young, securing McDermott's first win in charge. Despite the emphatic victory, England's tournament fate remains outside their direct control as they sit third in Pool B/C behind Tonga and Samoa.
To advance to the knockout rounds, England must defeat Papua New Guinea and rely on Tonga defeating Samoa in subsequent matches, alongside overcoming a significant points difference deficit. Meanwhile, Jason Demetriou's Papua New Guinea squad enters the fixture facing a similarly demanding mathematical path to qualification following a 64-6 loss to Samoa, aiming to reverse historical quarter-final defeats against England.
