Popular virtual private network provider IPVanish has officially introduced a dedicated IP feature, filling what industry reviewers and users have long considered a major gap in its service offering. Until this update, the provider relied exclusively on shared, dynamic IP addresses. Major competitors including NordVPN and Surfshark have provided dedicated IP options for years, leaving IPVanish trailing slightly behind in corporate and remote-working environments where fixed addresses are essential.
A standard VPN connection assigns a shifting IP address shared by multiple users across a server network. The new IPVanish add-on flips this model by providing a unique, fixed address assigned to a single subscriber. This setup prevents users from getting locked out of sensitive financial or corporate accounts triggered by suspicious login locations. It also allows professionals to whitelist the address for secure remote work networks, home network-attached storage units, and staging servers. The optional feature launches across five global locations: New York, London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Tokyo. It supports standard security protocols including WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IKEv2, functioning seamlessly across desktop and mobile applications.
Despite the convenience for remote access, security experts point out a clear privacy trade-off. Shared IP addresses allow users to blend into a digital crowd, whereas a dedicated IP makes tracking online activity easier for third parties. To counter this privacy risk, IPVanish allows users to toggle back and forth between their dedicated address and regular shared servers at any time through the app's location menu. This latest rollout rounds out a busy development period for the company, which recently introduced Threat Protection Pro and mapped out a transition to RAM-only servers by 2027.
