Elon Musk Tells Followers Retiring is Pointless Thanks to Superintelligence

Elon Musk recently took to social media to advise followers against squirreling money away for retirement, claiming that the arrival of artificial superintelligence will render traditional savings obsolete. Replying to a post on social media, the billionaire asserted that saving money for the distant future is pointless with the advent of superintelligent abundance. This sentiment echoes comments he made earlier this year during an appearance on Peter Diamandis's podcast, where he explicitly stated that worrying about retirement funds ten or twenty years down the line will not matter.

The tech entrepreneur has increasingly leaned into the narrative that advanced automation and machine intelligence will fundamentally reshape economic reality. In a previous interview with biographer Walter Isaacson, Musk noted that the national debt cannot be solved by traditional austerity measures, stating that the only viable solution involves artificial intelligence and robotics rather than trying to save a way forward.

Despite projecting a future of infinite wealth and zero scarcity through tech development, Musk's own actions tell a conflicting story. Critics point out that the billionaire continues to pursue massive corporate compensation packages and spent considerable time leading the Department of Government Efficiency to curb government spending. Critics argue that urging everyday workers to abandon retirement savings ignores the historical erosion of private pensions, weakened labor unions, and suppressed wages driven by industry leaders, leaving the public vulnerable if the promised automated utopia fails to materialize.
