Though Microsoft Teams serves as a daily communication tool for over 320 million monthly active users, the platform constantly receives updates that often slip past even regular users. Beyond standard messaging and video calls, several specific functions can streamline remote communication, keep meetings on schedule, and recover lost messages after sudden disruptions.

One notable addition is the meeting countdown timer, introduced in mid-2005. Users can access this by selecting More in the top toolbar and clicking Timer, allowing hosts to set a countdown for up to 100 minutes. The timer appears in the top-left corner for all attendees with presenter capabilities, turning red and flashing as time expires. For challenging audio environments, the platform features an AI-driven voice isolation tool. By creating a quick voice profile through settings and voice capture, users can toggle isolation on during calls to filter out intense background noise.

Additional quality-of-life updates focus on tracking information and catching up on missed context. Live transcription, available since 2021, operates in near real time to capture dialogue and differentiate between speakers without storing data for AI training. Meanwhile, a draft-tracking function added in March 2026 allows users to locate unsent messages directly from the left panel of the chat interface, eliminating the need to hunt down interrupted conversations.
