Philips Hue is bringing generative intelligence to the smart home ecosystem with the rollout of Custom AI Behaviors. Available now inside the Hue app for users equipped with the Hue Bridge Pro, the new feature allows homeowners to type out natural language descriptions to set up complex lighting routines. Instead of manually tinkering with multi-layered schedules and color configurations, users can simply describe how they want their lights to behave. Head of technology George Yianni previously highlighted the capability, noting that translating plain text into proprietary bridge automation logic represents a major leap forward for home personalization.
Early adopters and testers are already running into initial friction points during everyday usage. Reports indicate that the underlying AI occasionally struggles with granular execution, such as targeting specific fixtures instead of turning on an entire floor of lights. More crucially, the current version lacks a manual editing suite. If the generative tool misinterprets a command or hits a logic wall, users cannot manually tweak the resulting code and are instead met with error messages or dead ends.
Aside from the bespoke AI routines and the previously released SpatialAware scene optimization exclusive to the Bridge Pro tier, the latest app update also delivers broad quality-of-life improvements. All users gain access to simplified Screen Sync setup procedures and smarter scene recommendations across both iOS and Android platforms. While the current limitations point to standard first-generation software hurdles, future updates are expected to address editing restrictions as development continues.
