Apple has begun testing two of its most anticipated wearable audio features with the release of the watchOS 27.3 beta. First introduced during the hardware showcase back in September, Siri Recap and Live Rewind are now available for developers and public beta testers who own an Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4.
The Siri Recap tool leverages built-in intelligence to generate high-level summaries of recent conversations, complete with an assigned title and key bullet points. Users can pull up these breakdowns through the dedicated Siri app whenever they need to quickly review past discussions. Meanwhile, Live Rewind targets immediate auditory comprehension by transcribing the last 15 seconds of surrounding audio into text. A simple double-press of the Digital Crown triggers this snippet, allowing the user to read the text, query Siri about its contents, or save the log for later review.
Deploying these capabilities relies heavily on the upgraded processing power of the S11 chip embedded in the latest hardware. Because the hardware relies on microphones that continuously process environmental audio, Apple has implemented strict privacy parameters. The system processes sound locally and immediately discards the raw audio data, preventing the operating system, third-party apps, and Apple itself from storing or accessing recordings. Additionally, Live Rewind features visual indicators and an audible chime when activated, even if the watch is muted.
Accessing the new Audio Intelligence suite comes with specific hardware and regional prerequisites. Beyond owning a compatible Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4, users must pair the wearable with an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, specifically an iPhone 16 or newer. At this stage in the beta cycle, both tools function exclusively in English, are excluded from the European Union, and remain subject to daily usage caps.
