Sonos is introducing a fresh wave of artificial intelligence to its ecosystem, targeting the ongoing pain points of its mobile application. Starting November 6, the audio company will open an early-access waitlist for its new voice assistant, tentatively called Sonos27voice, with a broader rollout scheduled to begin on November 12. This upcoming feature aims to move beyond basic audio playback controls and interpret more complex, conversational user requests.
While older voice control iterations handled simple inputs like skipping tracks, the new system processes descriptive queries. Users will be able to search for music using abstract phrasing, such as requesting classic rock songs about space or specific albums based on cover art details. Beyond music discovery, the voice assistant integrates deeper hardware controls, allowing people to group and ungroup speakers or shift audio streams between rooms using spoken commands rather than manual navigation inside the app.
Alongside the voice assistant integration, Sonos is introducing a Presets feature designed to simplify routine listening habits. These presets allow users to program specific tracks, predefined volume levels, and targeted room selections for different occasions, functioning as a customized utility for multi-room audio setups. By releasing these features initially in a beta format, Sonos hopes to rebuild consumer trust following previous app update challenges while steadily incorporating modern smart home conveniences.
