HP has officially announced the new HP OmniBook 5 14 AI PC, targeting students, young professionals and everyday users looking for a premium Windows laptop without moving into the highest price segments. The laptop was announced by HP on October 1, 2026, with a starting price of $699.99 in the US.
One of the biggest highlights of the OmniBook 5 is its portable design. The laptop is just 11.77mm thin and weighs around 1.16kg, making it suitable for users who frequently carry their laptop between home, college, office and travel. HP also includes two full-function USB-C ports, a 180-degree hinge and a compact 65W USB Mini GaN charger.
The display is another major attraction. The launch configuration features a 14-inch 2K OLED display with up to 300 nits brightness and 100% DCI-P3 colour coverage. HP has also announced a higher-end 2.5K OLED touchscreen variant with up to 620 nits brightness, although that version is planned for March 2027 rather than the initial launch.
For performance, the OmniBook 5 can be configured with up to an Intel Core 7 processor with an integrated NPU, bringing hardware acceleration for compatible AI workloads. The laptop also includes an FHD IR camera with Windows Hello facial recognition, dual microphones, Poly Studio-tuned audio and DTS Ultra.
Battery life is another key selling point. HP claims up to 42 hours of local video playback, although this figure comes from HP's specific testing conditions and should not be considered typical everyday battery life.
The OmniBook 5 will be available in Smoke Silver, Starlit Blue, Peony Pink and Soft Honeydew. With its OLED panel, lightweight aluminium design, AI-ready processor options and aggressive $699.99 starting price, HP is positioning the OmniBook 5 as a strong alternative in the affordable premium Windows laptop segment.
