China-based robotics company UBTECH Robotics is showcasing how humanoid robots could move from experimental prototypes to large-scale manufacturing with its Super Smart Factory in Liuzhou, Guangxi. The company’s CEO James Zhou recently gave a factory tour highlighting the facility’s production capabilities and automated operations.
The approximately 14,000-square-metre facility is designed for high-volume humanoid robot production. According to UBTECH’s factory tour, the production line could reach a throughput of around one humanoid robot every eight to ten minutes at maximum capacity, translating to roughly 1,500 units per month. Importantly, these figures represent potential production capacity rather than confirmed current monthly output.
The factory also demonstrates a “robots making robots” approach. UBTECH’s Cruzr Y1 robots assist with unpacking and moving materials, while Cruzr S2 robots support packaging operations. Autonomous forklifts and logistics systems then move completed robots toward the shipping area.
The facility uses digital manufacturing technologies developed with Siemens, combining automated logistics, production management and quality-control systems. UBTECH says its broader focus is on embodied AI humanoids for industrial, commercial and household applications.
The development highlights China’s growing push to industrialise humanoid robotics, although the industry still faces challenges around robot intelligence, reliability and real-world commercial demand.
