Indie horror breakout Buddy is making its way to living rooms this October following a successful theatrical run after premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. Directed and co-written by Casper Kelly, the film earned back its modest budget in theaters and carved out a space among recent R-rated, non-franchise horror successes.
The story centers on a seemingly classic children's television show featuring a bright orange unicorn named Buddy, whose cheerful exterior cracks when a child refuses to play along. Cristin Milioti and Delaney Quinn star as a mother and daughter drawn into the terrifying realm of the show. The voice cast features Keegan-Michael Key as Buddy, Patton Oswalt as a talking backpack, and Michael Shannon as a marionette, alongside appearances by Topher Grace and Clint Howard.
Audiences can watch the film at home starting October 13 ahead of a DVD and Blu-ray release on December 8. Witter Entertainment is also rolling out a nostalgic VHS edition of the movie on November 24 for physical media collectors.
