ChatGPT is trading its signature walls of text for interactive visual elements, marking a significant shift away from the traditional chatbot interface. OpenAI announced that its upcoming model family will feature Intelligent UI capabilities, allowing the AI to dynamically build graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts, and functional user interfaces directly inside its response window. Rather than relying solely on descriptive paragraphs, the system will pull from a trained library of components to render visualizations whenever contextually appropriate.

Demonstrating the feature, OpenAI showcased a mechanical breakdown of a seven-speed bicycle featuring clickable components, alongside a recipe planning tool complete with generated dish images and scalable ingredient menus. The model determines autonomously when a visual interface serves the prompt best, though users retain the option to manually request a UI build at any time. Standard text responses will remain the default for straightforward queries.

This visual pivot mirrors similar efforts across the industry, such as Google's Generative Interface introduced with Gemini. The rollout begins globally for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers, followed by Free and Go tier users. While the feature promises a more dynamic user experience, observers note potential concerns around accelerated token consumption and fresh vectors for model hallucinations as visual rendering expands.
