Rivian is rolling out a fresh software update that introduces a heavily requested feature for animal owners driving the R2. The 2026.36 update allows drivers to place a live pet camera directly on their smartphone lock screen, offering constant peace of mind when stepping away from the vehicle. Leveraging the high-definition interior camera found in R2 models, the feature transmits real-time video feeds directly into the Rivian companion app. Users can either watch a continuous livestream or rely on regularly refreshed snapshots displayed on their device dashboard and lock screen for quick wellness checks.
Safety and convenience take center stage with additional upgrades to the vehicle's existing climate-control setting. Drivers can now activate Pet Mode remotely via the Rivian app if they forget to toggle it on before stepping out. To prevent dangerous mistakes, the system features a new confirmation prompt whenever the mode is switched on or off through the smartphone application. These updated remote controls apply universally across the automaker's lineup.
Alongside the animal-focused enhancements, the software package introduces the Rivian Assistant to R2 vehicles. The built-in AI voice assistant was previously deployed in R1 models and handles fundamental tasks including navigation adjustments, media playback, and cabin climate management. Drivers can disable the active pet camera feed at any time with a simple tap on the vehicle's main dashboard display.
