Prime Video has given fans their first substantial look at Blade Runner 2099, debuting a full-length trailer during a Saturday evening panel at New York Comic Con. The upcoming television series follows up on the teaser trailer shown previously at San Diego Comic-Con in July, expanding the scope of the iconic science fiction franchise.
Showrunner Silka Luisa detailed the premise during the NYCC panel, explaining that the series takes place fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. In this timeline, the long-simmering replicant uprising has materialized, resulting in humanity losing control to their creations. The narrative explores a macro-level question about mortality, asking what happens to a species when its time ends and another begins to rise.
The plot centers on Olwen, a dying Replicant Blade Runner played by Michelle Yeoh, who teams up with Cora, a human fugitive disguised as a Replicant portrayed by Hunter Schafer. Together, they embark on a search for a runaway harboring a dangerous secret. Fans should note that original star Harrison Ford will not reprise his role as Rick Deckard in the new project. Blade Runner 2099 is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on November 25.
