Movie memorabilia collectors with deep pockets now have a shot at owning one of the most famous props in cinema history. Heritage Auctions has added Darth Vader's lightsaber from the pivotal father revelation scene in The Empire Strikes Back to its upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Signature Auction. Bidding opens at a cool $1 million, setting the stage for another massive payday in the high-end collectible market.
The listing follows a recent blockbuster sale where Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker lightsaber from the same cinematic sequence fetched a record-breaking $3.75 million. The upcoming auction features a total of 189 items spanning the original trilogy. Among the catalog highlights are Boba Fett's laser carbine, production spaceship models including an original Y-wing, and a Snowspeeder once owned by Carrie Fisher.
Beyond physical props, the collection includes rare historical documents from the franchise's early days. An August 1975 draft script titled The Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Starkiller bears the signature of actor Anthony Daniels. Archivists and fans will also find original concept art, such as detailed sketches of the trench run sequence from A New Hope.
Online bidding is already underway ahead of the live auction event scheduled for November 12. Industry watchers remain split on whether the Vader prop will challenge the $3.75 million benchmark set by its Jedi counterpart earlier this year.
