Ukrainian forces are increasingly turning to unmanned terrestrial systems to handle some of the most perilous engineering tasks on the front lines. Military footage reveals that six-wheeled, remote-controlled robots are now being deployed to lay defensive wire barriers across dangerous terrain, keeping human engineers safely under cover. The vehicles feature a specially designed framework mounted above their wheels to hold wire rolls in place, allowing the material to unwind gradually as the machine moves forward along designated routes.

The 16th Separate Support Brigade operates these robotic systems remotely, sparing engineering teams from the severe dangers of manually deploying fencing in open areas. While military officials have acknowledged the shift toward using ground drones for barrier construction, specific details regarding the exact manufacturer, model, carrying capacity, and operational range remain undisclosed.

This tactical integration aligns with a broader surge in unmanned ground operations across the conflict. Statistics from Ukraine’s DELTA military management platform indicate that overall robotic missions climbed from 7,511 in January to 19,940 by July, eventually passing the 112,000 mark by early September. Beyond barrier installation, similar remote-controlled platforms are regularly utilized to transport critical provisions and ammunition, highlighting a rapid operational transition toward autonomous and semi-autonomous support equipment on the modern battlefield.
