Law enforcement and military field units could soon process complex data at the roadside instead of returning to a station, courtesy of a new heavy-duty machine from DT Research. The California-based manufacturer has announced the LT365PA, a 15.6-inch rugged laptop designed specifically for crime scene investigators, crash reconstruction teams, and command posts. The hardware is built to crunch demanding video feeds, drone imagery, and 3D scans directly where the data is collected, cutting down on transit and upload delays.
Under the hood, the LT365PA runs on Intel Core Ultra 5 225H or Core Ultra 7 255H processors, paired with 16GB to 32GB of LPDDR5 memory and up to 2TB of storage running Windows 11 IoT Enterprise. Because Intel's built-in neural processing unit is rated at a modest 13 TOPS, heavy computational lifting for video analytics and AI workloads falls to discrete graphics options. Buyers can configure the device with an Nvidia RTX A2000 or the much more powerful RTX 5000 Ada Generation module, which packs 9,728 CUDA cores and 16GB of memory.
The hardware platform shares structural traits with its 2023 predecessor, the LT355, maintaining identical dimensions for its 1,200-nit 4K touchscreen, night-vision display options, operating temperature parameters, and hot-swappable battery design. However, the updated model sheds roughly 1.1 pounds, dropping its total weight to 8.6 pounds, while integrating upgraded camera modules and the newer Intel architecture. It features an IP65-rated chassis alongside MIL-STD-810H certifications for shock and vibration, alongside public-sector essentials like a CAC reader, RFID and NFC readers, GPS, and 4G LTE.
The practical motivation behind the design ties directly into public safety metrics. Agencies face immense pressure to clear incident sites quickly, as traffic delays compound safety hazards rapidly after a crash. Despite these operational goals, practical trade-offs remain. The machine's weight surpasses leading competitors like the Panasonic Toughbook 40, and DT Research has not yet published formal battery life figures or specific drop-test heights. Global distribution through authorized resellers is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, though pricing details remain unannounced.
