Meta has constructed a humanoid robot prototype built to assist with household chores, according to a recent report by The Information. The device, internally codenamed Max, was developed over a span of approximately three months with assistance from Chinese robotics firm Fourier. Standing roughly five feet tall and weighing around 106 pounds, the machine features an exterior display capable of rendering facial expressions, an integrated speaker, and specialized hands meant for grasping small objects. Processing power for the robot is supplied by NVIDIA Jetson Thor chips housed internally.
While a commercial launch date remains unannounced, the tech conglomerate has already initiated work on a successor. Development on the second iteration, designated Max 2, began in September. This updated model incorporates hardware adjustments to the torso and hands, alongside the addition of a projector and extra sensors designed to improve navigation across stairs.
The move into humanoid robotics follows earlier organizational steps taken by the company. Reports from Bloomberg last year revealed that Meta established a dedicated team focused on robotics hardware with the long-term objective of domestic automation. That initiative expanded earlier this year through the acquisition of a startup specializing in artificial intelligence tailored for robotic systems.
